Youth Leadership Program

Our youth are an important part of our community, this is how we support them with our leadership program

Developing Future Leaders

In an effort to help develop the future leaders of our communities and state, Pearl River Valley Electric participates with other rural electric cooperatives in Mississippi in a statewide Youth Leadership Program.

The program is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to learn about electric power associations, how and why cooperatives operate, and how electricity is distributed, in addition to sharpening their leadership skills.

Each fall, Pearl River Valley looks for two or three area high school students to participate in the program. We are currently not accepting applications due to COVID-19 as we await information regarding 2021’s program.

This Year’s Winners

Three local high school juniors, Hagen Bracey and Marlie Barnes of Columbia Academy and Jeremiah Jackson of Wiggins are the winners this year. In late February, they joined over 80 other students from around the state in Jackson for the 34th annual Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop, where they met with legislators and took part in leadership training sessions. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, they were unable to participate in the yearly Washington D.C. trip.
